Next Steps

Assessment

Our first step of treatment is a 60-90 minute comprehensive assessment. This assessment includes a full questionnaire and medical history to get a background of which OMD's or health conditions are affecting you or your child's daily life. We will also be assessing function through a variety of different tasks, recording measurements and taking pictures or videos. Once this step is completed we will come up with a treatment plan that we will utilize over the course of 4-12 months.

Habit Elimination Program

We need to complete a habit elimination program for patients that have noxious habits before we start therapy in order to have the best success with treatment. Habits that need to be eliminated may include thumb or finger sucking, nail biting or picking, and pacifier use.

Treatment Plan Sessions

Over the course of 4-12 months we will meet virtually or sometimes (if possible) in person to complete 30-40 minute sessions. We may suggest the need to work with other providers prior to starting sessions or throughout treatment to get the best outcome. Our first sessions will be more frequent but will eventually turn into maintenance until the program is completed. Each session will include exercises to be done at home 2-3 times daily. YOUR compliance is key!

Who do we treat?

Infants

0-1

COMING SOON! Does your infant need a tethered oral tissue release? There are movements for before and after to ensure that the tissues heal properly following a release. Proper wound healing may require a collaborative approach with other health professionals such as IBCLC, body worker or feeding specialists.

Early Interventions

2-4

Growth occurs at a rapid rate in children and there are many ways that we can intervene and create healthy habits for proper tongue rest posture and optimal facial development.

Older children and adults

5+

OMT is a painless way to get proper oral rest posture. Proper oral rest posture benefits may include orthodontic retention, nasal breathing, provide relief from TMD and head and neck pain, best chewing and swallowing habits, facial and lip strength,  and elimination of noxious oral habits.

Add a footnote if this applies to your business

Myo Mark strives to achieve proper oral rest posture for all of our patients.

Improper oral rest posture is often a indicator or causative factor for the OMD's listed throughout the website but Orofacial Myology or Myofunctional Therapy is not a cure or treatment for OMD's. By correcting our oral rest posture there is an increased possibility to relieve said OMD's.
