Orofacial Myofunctional disorders (OMD) are pathological conditions that affect chewing, breathing and swallowing.

Red flags for OMD's include mouth breathing, open mouth posture, tongue thrust, tongue or lip ties, atypical swallows, clenching or grinding habits, sleep disorders, bed wetting, thumb sucking, TMD,  orthodontic relapse, enlarged tonsils/adenoids, speech misarticulations, chewing disorders, facial muscle disfunction, malocclusions or crossbites, snoring, low tongue rest posture, high palate, infant feeding problems, forward head posture, chronic shoulder and neck pain, abnormal breathing and many more.

Collaborative Approach

Collaboration between allied health professionals is important to fully address the root cause and not just treat the symptoms. There may be referrals between providers to make sure that we reach our patients individual goals that are set during the treatment planning stage. These referrals may include but are not limited to ENT's, Orthodontists,  Physical Therapists, Sleep Physicians, Speech Language Pathologists, or release providers.
